Deuxième jour / Day 2 ---- Vendredi
14 / Friday 14
Entrainements / practice
MEN PRACTICE
Well, arrived at the rink approximately at 9h45. So could see the men practice in their interity (short program practice).
Group 1
Gregor Urbas was working on his triple Axel, which he made double several
times, landed once with turn-out but twice OK.
Brian Joubert did among other a good triple flip at the end of the step
sequence. Was working on the Quad toe. Did one at the end but several
others were either triple or not successfull (step out, pop, ...).
Kevin Van der Perren had a good practice. He starts warming-up the triple
toe, Sal and loop cautiously, and then goes to more difficult triple and combos.
In all his practice i rarely have seen him fall; pops here and there sometimes but
never bad falls. He did two beautiful 3Lz-3Lp combos (i may be able to show you
that later !). His trademark 3Sal-3Toe-3Lp, and good step sequence (Morozov but
not too many toe picks). He told me he changed boot recently so he is hapy to
have his triple back, the 3A and quads should be back on time for Euros.
Michael Weiss was so-so on the quad. Still i have a small video of one of
his (underrotated) 4T-2T combo. Spent quite some time on the Axel and on the
Quad, doing several 3T and 2A, stayed late on the ice, but then did a nice
3A-3T. He has a good circular step sequence at the end of his program, very
energetic.
Yunfei Li... seems to have lost all his big jumps. Tried the quad several
times, did a lot of triple, best was one successfull quad but not really more.
Daisuke Takahashi. Silent skater; does not make lots of sound on the ice.
Soft knee bent, triple Axel is there.
At the end of first group saw Gwendal running in the mazy corridors of Bercy...
shortly afterwards i understood why : Stan was practicing !
Group 2
Stanick Jeannette was wearing his SP costume. Music is a good version of
Sirtaki. Unfortunately Stan was not consistent with the triple Axel, which is
usually one of his best jumps, that he lands very smoothly and without snow.
Here the triple Axel was well landed but a bit more messy. Nothing worth a big
deduction but it's not the Stan we use to know. He spends a lot of time on the
quad, going and going for it. As the other skaters working on hard jumps there
were serveral pops (triple), but also some good attemps; landed after 4
revolutions on one foot backwards. But the 4 was not here.
Fedor Andreev seems to be able to add a triple toe after any jumps. Good
practice with3F-3T, 3A, steps into 3Lz. First time for me to see this skater (never
seen before, even on tv). OK he has a great silhouette and face, but what i
noticed is his great posture and lines. Thought 'his mom must be an ice dancer'
LOL !
Stefan Lindemann... poor guy. anybody knows if he was injured or
something ? Seems to be worst than Li (except he's more pleasant to watch, more
presentation). Triple Axel is gone, quad is non-existent... it's not because he
does not try ! best attempt was 4T two foot + turn-out.
Frederic Dambier had a great practice. Seems to be more confident and
consistent than last year. 3A was effortless, 4Sal-2T, 4Sal-3T, looked very
strong.
Evgueny Plushenko
Well, had never seem him in practice or it was long ago. Did a 3Lp-3T first, hen
3A-3T, 4T 2 hands down then OK. Fast spins.
Alexander Shubin
Wow ! good practice ! step sequence shows his exhuberance. Was impressed to see
him landed a 4T-3T and then a 4T-3T-2Lp combo. !!PAIRS PRACTICE
Langlois/Archetto : sbs 3T where one of the two doubling the jump, but at
the end OK.
Scott / Dulebohn : sbs 2A ok, several thrown double jumps but triple came
afterwards.
Zhang/Zhang : they have a difficult entry in the pair spin, more credit (my
guess is +1).
Berankova/Dlabola : hmm, nothing written, so i guess all went OK ;-)
Lefrancois/Blanchard, practicing sbs 3T from spread eagle. She was very
solid; he had more pb. One of their lift should be +1/+2 (see rules) as it
rotates in the opposite direction and has a long spread eagle position for him.
Pla/Bonheur : yeehaa !! all the best for them ! At first did not
recognize Marylin who has now dark hair (instead of red), that suits her very
well. During their run through he doubled the sbs 3T and she fell, the th3Lp was
high (great for them to do such a difficult jump so early in their carreer !).
Later the sbs 3T was OK. Now France has two worth-seeing pairs !!
Totmianina/Marinin : good practice
As well as Borzenkova/Chuvilaev as i had no note....
LADIES PRACTICE
Group 1
All the skaters except Sasha Cohen started roughly at the same speed, with the
2A coming quite quickly during the practice, then the other jumps.
Sebestyen : 3F + other jumps...
Calvez : 3T-3T after several attempts.
Liang : never saw her skate, but quite impressed : not really smily,
rather focussed, good jumps (2A, 3F solid) all to Lutz (edge debate : see lower...),
good flow... better keep an eye on her, in a few year she'll be a beauty
!.
Cohen : took her time to really get into the practice session, didn't
do much but what she did was good. Seemed really in confidence, secure. Cohen
level 2 ! jumps included her sp jumps : 3F, 3fLz-2T.
Lautowa : very solid, 3Lp, 3F, 3Lz-2T. Not many mistakes. keeping an eye
on her for the competition.
Group 2
Didier : 3F good with 2T, but about 2 good 3F for 7 tries... pop and
falls all over the place. seems to be in her head as she can do it with no
problem. Same for fLz.
Arakawa : started with 2A-3T. jumpy once, jumpy forever ! then 3Lz fall
(!), 3Lz-2T, 3F twice, 3Lz again, 2A. during RT : 3Lz-3T, pop Lip, 2A.
Drei : 2A--2A, 3T-2T, 2Lz low-2T, 3Lz-2T then consistent. Good RT with
only a 3Lz-1T, rest was good and well skated.
McCorkell : good to see an english skaters at this level !
2A, steps into 3Lp, some 3Lz, on what seems a flat edge.
Dytrt : cuty-cuty !!! several 2A, jumps up to 3fLz. (3fLz-2T twice)
Now time for the SP and OD !
Danses originale / Original Danse
Pechalat / Bourzat : cuban outfit, she with a not so pretty dress at first sight
but is OK later; him in dark green and red a la revolutionnaire. Good flow and
unison. have improve a lot !
Grebenkina/Azrojan : Colors are eerrk ! flu orange, + black and white
for him :puke:. took me some times before finding where i had heard his name...
then i remembered Tiff/Azrojan ;-)
Aureli/Vaturi : in red. he looks like Massimo Scali. The rythm suits
them well, they have the 'it' factor. they fit well with each other. technique
is far beyond the others. They skated way too often on the left of the rink. at
the end pb with the screen as the speaker said the marks displayed were the ones
they had received at another competition. Petetin/Jost : she in
white, not a good choice. he has a interesting asymetric outfit
Dubreuil/Lauzon : he as a soldier but with sparkling sleeves (eurk
!), she with a red dress with white spots. little off synch in // step
sequence.me wrote hydroblading move into lift with change of rotation.
Denkova/Staviski : she in orange / pink. First part is 'blue' on the
music of 'this is a men's world' : excellent ! Really a masterpiece. Second part
is unfortunately too different, too bad they have to have two different rythmns...
Overall joyfull, very pleasant to watch. Want to see i again.
Kozlova/Baranov : Red + illusion fabric. a bit too simple ? Fraser/Lukanin
: He in black and white with 'NAVY' written on his torso (makes one think about
village people... lol !), she with a white shirt with dark spots, yellow
top and pink hairband. Had a big loss of edge right at the beginning (sliver saw
it better than me), like if they had pushed too much into something. had to
skate the place their next step was starting. then he stumbles once or twice in
the program. too bad as she is such s strong skater !!! (hmm, just to tease
sliver, lol !). Pair spin was really slow. still managed to be ahead of P/B (!!)
Delobel/Schoenfelder : great, very good unison in twizzle, but had a bad
fall something like 2 sec before the end of the program. would have them first
without the fall.
Kulikova/Novikov : costumes are 'arrgghhh'. A bit like Eltsova/Bushkov
during their last year : black leather and illusion fabric she with a purple
skirt with yellow parts. really difficult. did not find any swing in their
program, when the rythmns are supposed to be 'swing combo'. you could see the
Tarassova influence by the toe picks she used at the beginning of the step
sequence.
Belbin/Agosto : she with a pink dress with yellow spots; him with
brown trousers; yellow shirt and pink bretelles. very fast, very good use of ice
surface. lift with a knee-bent spread eagle position.
Press conf : -apart from the general comments on the programs, etc...-
Albena (mainly) and Maxim said they were not at their best yet; they mades
changes after SA. Marie and Patch also said they made some changes, but had some
mistakes 'cause they had not enough time after Germany to work sufficietlyl on
what they changed.
Olivier said he had indeed a great fall, his foot didn't turn. he said it was
his best fall so far; to what Albena added 'it was a level 3 fall' LOL !
My question to D/L and french D/S was how practice were going on in Lyon since
they are very close to each other and rival on the ice. They answered everything
is going well; they get along very well and like each other company. Marie said
'we are good sportmen, we change in the same room but we don't fight :-)'. To
have 'sparing partner' of more or less the same level than them was considered a
plus for Marie who said it's a great motivation.
Programmes court messieurs / Men short
program Gregor URBAS : hmm, was not acting reasonnably at that
time, went up 4 floors after dance press conf, and 4 floors down to seat, but as
i had forgotten my sweater in the press conf room had just the time to see
Gregor step out of his 3A, then 4 floors up and 4 floors down to the press room,
and 4 floors up and 4 floor down to seat. call me stupid.
Brian JOUBERT : nightmare on ice part 1. stepped-out of the 4T then 2T, fall
on 3A. rest was ok.
Kevin Van Der PERREN : good program, went for 3Lz-3Lp but did 3Lz-3T, very
wise as the Lz was a bit too much on the back of the blade. 3F, 2A.
Michael WEISS : made it easy yet not successfull as changed the 4T-3T for a
3F-3T but the second jump is two-footed, 3A stiff, 3Lz OK. the circular step seq
was better in practice.
Yunfei LI : fall on 4T which did not surprise me at all, 2A leaning -instead
of 3A-, flying sit spin travelling, 3Lz.
Daisuke TAKAHASHI : good program with 3F-3T, 3A a bit snowy but OK, circular
step seq great, 3Lz. Again, no difficult jumps but it's only a GP event so...Stanick JEANNETTE
: nightmare on ice part 2. Stan had a bad fall on the 4T in warm-up (close to
landing it again but pb with his right ankle he got operated this summer). went
off-ice, got his boot loose a bit; when back on the ice and had the guts to go
for the 4T in his SP. then 4T fall, popped 3A (singled), which could be
understood after the fall on the quad, but popping the 3Lz is hard to understand
at this level.when th skating gods are not with you...
Fedor ANDREEV : godd presentation, had some twizzles. 3A, 3F-3T, flying
camel with both hand down on the ice and of balance, pop 3Lz (i heard him saying
his pick didn't take), great final combo spin.
Stefan LINDEMANN : 2T instead of 4T-3T, 3A fall, single Lz.
Frederic DAMBIER : nightmare on ice part 3. all was perfect in warm-up. then
4S fall, 3A bad leaning an fall, 3F step out. too bad the choreography is really
great.
Evgeni PLUSHENKO : 4T 'half fall' : 2 hand down, step out - 2T, 3A, circular
step seq that only covers 3/4 of a circle, 3Lz snowy. not his best for sure.
Alexander SHUBIN : 4T a bit snowy-2T, 2A with very weak connecting steps (crossovers
all the way through the ice), 3Lz 2 ft, very heavy. The only two clean
programs were Kevin and Daisuke. VERY disappointing comp, looked like a ladies
SP to me. Was completely off the mood for a long time that evening. such a
splatfest !
Press conf : Plushy said at his previous GP he did 4T-3T but no 3A, so
here it's the opposite. Hope to skate better in CoR. Fought the ice was
dangerous; not because of the colour but because they were lots of traces.
Daisuke said little, he seemed really shy ;-). Said he was very nervous.
Pushenko drew for at least half of the men as they did not show up at the draw.
Programmes court dames / Ladies short
program
Julia SEBESTYEN : white / light green dress. Music isWaltz, suits
her well. i think it's really her style, even though she is often old fashioned
concerning music, costumes and programs, but it's her style. to be honest it's
true i don't really see her in a modern choreography.
3F from only a few steps, 3Lz as high as usual-2T, 2A. Clean performance, good,
pleasant to watch. yes watlz suits her well.
Anne-Sophie CALVEZ : very soft music which she can use very well, very
silent skating. 3T-3T step out with 2 hands down, 2F from difficult steps (seems
like brackett to me, on each foot), 2A. good program !
Beatrisa LIANG : 2A OK, 3Lz-2T maybe fLz, probably flat edge +
Kwan stroke, fall on 3F.
Sasha COHEN : Orangina dress (yellow with dark spots) 3fLz-2T , 3F,
2A great program too.
Julia LAUTOWA : 2Lz-2T (a real shame, 3Lz was very solid in
warm-up and in practice), 3F, 2ACandice DIDIER : 3F-2T (!!), 3Lz fall,
2A. looked very juniorish, a bit slow. i think it's too much too soon for her,
even if she is the French champion. What's the point of sending her to
competitions where she will end last ? ok it builds experience, but i hope she
is mentally very strong for it should not be particularly easy to end last in
front of such a big audience, and your home crowd in addition. hope she will
cope with that and develops well.
Shizuka ARAKAWA : light blue / purple dress. only 3Lz-2T (3Lz-3T
planned), 3Lip, 2A. good program, you don't see the time going by.
Alisa DREI : Nice outfit, with lots of sparkles in yellow / brownish.
2A, 3Lz-2T (low as usual but there), 2Lp too bad she did the most difficult and
has a problem on what is probably her best jump.Did not see any 3T-3T from her
actually.
Jenna McCORKELL : didn't take any notes so maybe clean program ? i
don't remember so. see stef' reports maybe.
Annette DYTRT : the cuty-cuty girl ! 3Lz fall, 3Toe OK, 2A.
Well, definitely a better competition than the men' one, and by far ! Still, we
had the usual forbidden music played again (Carmen -Liang-, Malaguena -Cohen-,
The umbrellas of Cherbourg -Arakawa-).
Press conf : well, Sasha didn't come and i guess Tatiana was seraching
for her, so no press conf. Candice did most of the draw since several skaters
didn't show up.
Programmes court couples / Pairs short
program Totmianina/Marinin : th3Lp OK, sbs 3T OK, DS OK,
only the 2Tw seemed ugly to me, maybe because it was only a double.
Lefrancois/Blanchard : music is Gotan Project, same as Dubreuil/Lauzon
FD. suits them well.
spread eagle into sbs 3T OK (have it somewhere !), 2Tw, th3S picky, stiff, pair
combo spin he had to put his foot down after the spiral position, final circular
step seq quite simple.
Berankova/Dlabola : sbs 3Toe OK, 2Tw, but th3S turned into double.
rest OK.
Scott/Dulebohn : everyhting was good (th3Sal, even if leaning a bit
in the air, sbs 3T, 2Tw,...)Zhang/Zhang : sbs 3T very good, th3Lp very
good, 2Tw i let you guess, pair combo spin with difficult entrance (yay ! am
bored of the simple usual entrance... ) but then a bit sloppy. Too bad most of
their program was done at the right of the judges.
Pla/Bonheur : Swing Kids, good choice of music.
sbs 3T, th3Lp long but a bit low (in practice it's really a big thjump !), rest
was OK
Langlois/Archetto : All good ! th3Sal, 2Tw, sbs 3T, ...
Borzenkova/Chuvilaev : he is still so tall, it's my guess he should
have no pb to find a partner, ladies who want to skate pairs but are a bit tall
have most probably not a lot of choice... Here their improvement was highly
noticeable. she looks a bit like Elena B., same silhouette.
th3Lp, sbs 3T he 2.5T, 2Tw, their 'Group 4 lift' was very good.
Pres conf :
T/M were happy with their performance, Tatiana was very interested in having the
detailed results (she asked me ... what could i say ? nothing was printed yet.
still i liked the way she seemed really eager to have some feedback from the
judges).
For Zhang/Zhang their program was quite OK.
Scott/Dulebohn were happy, Philip was proud Tiff landed the throw jump.
the usual question asked by the same lady was 'did you change parts of your
program with the feedback you had with the new system ?'
T/M and Z/Z : no time, no change.
S/D : they changed the sbs spin entrance (was more difficult before but didn't
make them earn more credit), the entrance of the death spiral, and the footwork
: basic steps were made more difficult with some bracketts and rockers. they
also changed a lift.
My question was then 'do you now plan some more changes ?'
Answer was 'no'. S/D no more change, they now will try to make each elements
better. Changes will be for next year ;-)
So ended the second day ! Honestly after the men splatfest i was really not in
the mood anymore. So disappointed !After the ladies short which was much better
i just wondered 'and there is still pairs short to come !', and pairs is
probably the event i prefer.
Then went back to sleep, also because i could not type a thing that night. More
sleep = more chances to see all men practice next morning !!!
